Nurturing Nature, Growing Change – Dikesh Patel’s Story
In a world where children are glued to screens, 12-year-old Dikesh Gorelal Patel, a student of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar School, Nagpur, is growing something remarkable—his love for nature!
Living in Untkhana, near Smart Ashok Chowk, Nagpur, Dikesh shares his home with his parents and sister. But it is his second home—the kitchen garden—that fills his heart with joy.
🌿 “I love to work in the kitchen garden because I can watch plants grow. Seeing seeds and saplings transform into plants that bear flowers, fruits, and vegetables is magical!” says Dikesh.
The Journey from Flowers to Food
Initially, Dikesh only grew flowering plants in grow bags, but everything changed when his school introduced the Nutrition Garden Development Programme in collaboration with Aroha NGO. Now, he grows organic vegetables at home, ensuring a toxin-free diet for his family.
